Evonik has temporarily shut down its Deer Park production plant
As of Saturday, August 26th, Evonik Oil Additives USA Inc. temporarily shut down its production at the Deer Park, Texas plant due to Tropical Storm Harvey. There has been no damage to Evonik’s assets, utilities, supplies or production capabilities. The plant remains closed as of Wednesday, August 30th.
The heavy rainfall has concluded today, with excess water draining from the site. All modes of transportation to and from the plant continue to be disrupted, restricting the mobility of our employees, contractors and service providers. Railways, roads and ports are closed, but we understand that safety inspections have begun at the port of Houston, and along the ship channel.
Evonik emergency crews have initiated site clean-up and safety checks on equipment. We are in communication with our suppliers to determine their ability to resume delivery of raw materials and services.
The re-start of the plant depends on the ability to our personnel to travel safely to the site, and the ability of our logistics partners to resume product transportation. It is not possible to communicate a re-start date at this time. Evonik’s Deer Park operating personnel are unharmed, but several have suffered damage to their homes or property. Safety of its employees, contractors and service providers is Evonik’s number one priority. We are diligently working to resume operations and minimize service disruptions to our customers.
Evonik is closely monitoring the aftermath of this storm and will issue updated information when the situation changes.
